Be a Mentor

“The most fulfilling aspect of mentoring with SEO Scholars is getting to know these amazing students, and learning something new from them each time we meet! Their perseverance and diligence as SEO Scholars constantly reinforces my belief that everyone has untapped potential that just needs to be nurtured and then drawn out!“ Jay Kim, 2012-2013 mentor

NYU Law School or Baruch College in New York City.

WHEN?

11th Grade Mentors: Up to 12 Saturdays in the Fall & Spring semesters (1-2 hours per session)

12th Grade Mentors: Up to 6 Saturdays in the Fall semester (2-3 hours per session)

Who?

We’re looking for mentors who hold a college degree or are currently working toward one. Mentors must commit to approximately 12 Saturday sessions for one academic year with no more than one missed absence per semester.

What’s the Impact?

Huge! The class of 2012 was awarded more than $1 million in scholarships and grants for their first year of college alone! Students were admitted to Amherst, Brown, Carnegie Mellon, George Washington University, Cornell, Swarthmore, Syracuse, Yale, and many other top colleges.

“The SEO Scholars mentoring program has allowed me to both re-engage with my local community and support a cause–education–that I care about deeply. For my mentee, Miguel, the program provides a number of role models who can lend perspectives which may be largely absent from his existing interpersonal relationships.” Matt Carmona, 2012-2013 mentor
